As families explore educational options for middle school, one question often rises to the top:

What will my child gain by the time they graduate?

At Seven Peaks School, our answer goes beyond grades, test scores, and high school acceptance letters. By the end of 8th grade, our students leave with the confidence, skills, and self-awareness to thrive in whatever comes next.

As we celebrate this year's graduating class, we asked students and alumni to reflect on their experiences. Their responses reveal what makes a Seven Peaks education unique and why so many graduates enter high school prepared not only for academic success, but for life.

Learning How to Learn

Perhaps the most powerful reflection came from graduating 8th grader Henry:

"We learned how to learn."

This simple statement captures the heart of the International Baccalaureate experience. Rather than focusing solely on memorizing information, students learn how to ask questions, conduct research, think critically, communicate effectively, and solve complex problems. They develop habits of curiosity and independence that serve them long after graduation.

Confidence Built Through Relationships

At Seven Peaks, students are known as individuals. Small class sizes and strong teacher relationships create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow.

Graduating student Bruno reflected:

"We would not be who we are without our amazing teachers."

Charlotte shared a moment that speaks volumes about the personal attention students receive:

"Mrs. Hatter, you got me to say, 'math is pretty fun.'"

Those relationships matter. When students feel seen and valued, they become more willing to take risks, tackle challenges, and discover strengths they may not have known they possessed.

Prepared for High School and Beyond

Our graduates consistently report that the transition to high school feels manageable because they arrive with strong organizational habits, writing skills, and academic confidence.

Alumna Delainey shared:

"Because of the level of workload at Seven Peaks, I found it much easier to complete homework and other projects assigned to me at Bend High in a timely manner. I also found that projects like essays are much more manageable because of the preparation Seven Peaks offered me."

Students learn how to manage their time, balance responsibilities, and approach challenging assignments with confidence. By the time they graduate, they have already practiced many of the skills expected in rigorous high school and college-preparatory programs.

Skills That Last a Lifetime

Academic preparation is only part of the story.

Alumnus Teddy reflected on the lasting impact of the skills he developed at Seven Peaks:

"Seven Peaks helped me be considerate of other people's perspectives and work with them. It prepared me for how to learn. I find that I use all of my ATL skills in my freshman classes. Seven Peaks also taught me how to analyze history and literature and be successful in the IB classes at Bend High."

These Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are woven throughout the student experience. Students learn how to collaborate, communicate, reflect, advocate for themselves, and engage thoughtfully with different perspectives. These are the skills that help young people become capable learners, effective leaders, and engaged citizens.
