Why IB Is the Advantage: Inspiring a Lifelong Love of Learning at Seven Peaks

At Seven Peaks School, our mission is clear: to inspire a lifelong love of learning and to prepare students to thrive in a complex, interconnected world. Every day, in classrooms and beyond, this mission comes alive through curiosity, creativity, and community.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Seven Peaks offers something rare — an education that values how students learn as much as what they learn. From the first days of Pre-K to the confident send-off of 8th grade, our students are immersed in experiences that teach them to think deeply, act compassionately, and connect meaningfully with the world around them.

From Wonder to Wisdom: The PYP Advantage

In the Primary Years Programme (PYP), learning begins with wonder. Students are encouraged to explore their interests, ask big questions, and make connections across subjects.

Walk through our classrooms, and you’ll see students speaking Spanish with ease, building in the Design Lab with precise measurements, or bringing their creative ideas to life through visual art. You’ll find hands-on inquiry at every turn — whether it’s discovering how beavers shape ecosystems, designing simple machines, or studying community helpers who make Bend thrive.

Each experience is designed to develop confident, curious thinkers who see themselves as active participants in their learning journey. PYP students aren’t simply absorbing facts; they’re learning how to learn — a skill that stays with them long after they leave our classrooms.

Exploration with Purpose: The MYP Experience

By middle school, that curiosity expands into a broader sense of purpose. In the Middle Years Programme (MYP), learning becomes an adventure in understanding the self and the world.

Each year, our students engage in field experiences that stretch their thinking and strengthen their sense of community:

  • Camp Hancock immerses them in Oregon’s rich geological history, deepening their appreciation for the natural world and scientific inquiry.

  • East Lake fosters connection and teamwork as students navigate shared challenges and reflect on their growth as individuals and as a group.

  • Ashland and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival invite students to experience the arts and culture firsthand — not just watching the performance, but exploring the creative process, storytelling, and human expression.

These trips are more than just moments away from campus; they are powerful opportunities for reflection, collaboration, and independence. They help students see that learning isn’t confined to a classroom — it’s a lifelong pursuit shaped by curiosity, empathy, and courage.

The IB Advantage: Learning for Life

The true advantage of an IB education lies in how it prepares students to think critically, act ethically, and engage globally. Our graduates don’t just know how to study — they know how to ask questions that matter, how to work across differences, and how to care deeply about the impact they can make.

At Seven Peaks, we see this every day: in the student who takes initiative in the Design Lab to solve a problem creatively; in the group who debates solutions to a global issue during a unit on sustainability; and in the eighth grader who mentors younger students during community events.

They are learning to see the world not as something to be navigated alone, but as a place to contribute, to understand, and to improve — together.

A Community of Joyful Learners

What sets Seven Peaks apart isn’t just our curriculum — it’s the joy that fills our classrooms, our hallways, and even our adventures beyond campus. It’s the spark of curiosity that leads a kindergartner to ask “why,” the confidence of a middle schooler who speaks at an assembly, and the quiet pride of a student who realizes they can build, design, and think for themselves.

Because here, learning is personal. It’s joyful. And it lasts a lifetime.
