The IB 5th Grade Exhibition: A Pivotal Moment in Your Child’s PYP Journey

The IB 5th Grade Exhibition is the culminating event of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Seven Peaks School, where students showcase their growth, skills, and learning through a transformative, inquiry-based project. Guided by their passions, students investigate real-world issues tied to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning their efforts with global challenges such as climate action, quality education, and health and well-being.

Through research, collaboration, and creativity, students develop critical skills like problem-solving, time management, and communication while exploring how they can make a positive impact. This process emphasizes independence, responsibility, and connection to the community, preparing them for success in the Middle Years Programme and beyond.

Parents play a vital role in this journey by encouraging, supporting, and attending the final Exhibition event, where students proudly present their findings and solutions. The IB 5th Grade Exhibition is not just a project—it’s a celebration of your child’s ability to think globally and act locally, taking meaningful steps toward a better future.

Why is the Exhibition Important?

  1. Showcasing Student Learning The Exhibition allows students to synthesize and apply everything they’ve learned throughout their PYP years. From research and communication skills to problem-solving and teamwork, the Exhibition is a comprehensive demonstration of their abilities.
  2. Promoting Agency and Independence Students take ownership of their learning by choosing topics they care deeply about, planning their inquiries, and working collaboratively with peers and mentors. This independence fosters confidence and a sense of responsibility.
  3. Building Lifelong Skills The Exhibition emphasizes essential skills like critical thinking, time management, and effective communication—skills that are vital for success in the MYP and in life.
  4. Connecting to the Community Through their projects, students often engage with local experts, organizations, and resources, fostering meaningful connections and learning how they can contribute to their communities.

The Journey of the Exhibition

The process begins with students identifying topics of personal interest that align with the PYP transdisciplinary themes. They then form small groups to collaborate on in-depth inquiries, guided by teachers and mentors. Over several weeks, they:

  • Conduct research using diverse sources
  • Analyze and synthesize information
  • Create visual, written, and oral presentations to share their findings
  • Reflect on their learning and personal growth

The journey culminates in an Exhibition event, where students present their projects to parents, peers, and the broader school community, showcasing their knowledge, creativity, and action-oriented solutions.

How Parents Can Support the Process

Your role as parents is crucial in supporting your child through this exciting and challenging process. Here’s how you can help:

  • Be an Encourager: Celebrate your child’s efforts and show genuine interest in their topic and progress.
  • Offer Guidance, Not Answers: Help them brainstorm ideas or find resources without taking over their project.
  • Volunteer as a Mentor: Share your expertise or time to guide a small group of students during their research and project development.
  • Attend the Exhibition: Show your support by attending the Exhibition event to witness your child’s hard work and growth.

Why This Moment Matters

The 5th Grade Exhibition is more than an academic project; it’s a rite of passage that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the MYP. It’s a celebration of their unique strengths, their ability to work collaboratively, and their commitment to making a positive impact in the world.

We are so proud of our 5th graders and can’t wait to see the amazing work they will present during this year’s Exhibition. Thank you for partnering with us to make this experience meaningful and memorable for your child!
