Seven Peaks Primary Years Programme: Growing Students with Distinct Purpose

At Seven Peaks School, we believe education is not only about what students know, but also about who they become. As Central Oregon’s only International Baccalaureate (IB) World School serving Pre-K through 8th grade, we hold a unique posture: we prepare children to thrive in a world that demands curiosity, adaptability, compassion, and integrity.

The IB framework provides the structure. It is globally recognized, inquiry-driven, and rooted in the belief that students learn best when they are active participants in their own learning. Within this framework, Seven Peaks emphasizes four essential competencies that shape the way our students learn and live:

Critical Thinking

Students learn to analyze, question, and make connections across disciplines. Whether it’s a 2nd grader finding number patterns in math or a 5th grader exploring environmental systems, Seven Peaks students practice looking beyond the obvious to discover deeper truths.

Creative Thinking

Creativity is not limited to art or music — it is about exploring new ideas, taking risks, and imagining possibilities. In the PYP, you’ll see students designing projects, telling stories through movement and sound, or inventing solutions to real-world problems. Creativity equips them to adapt, innovate, and dream big.

Ethical Thinking

From an early age, our students are encouraged to consider fairness, responsibility, and the impact of their choices. Through classroom discussions, service projects, and collaborative work, they learn to weigh perspectives, respect others, and act with integrity. These habits form the foundation of principled global citizenship.

Self-Regulation

Academic success depends on more than intelligence. It requires focus, resilience, and emotional balance. At Seven Peaks, students practice self-regulation by reflecting on their work, managing transitions, and learning strategies for calming and centering themselves. These skills build independence and confidence that extend far beyond the classroom.

Why It Matters

In a rapidly changing world, knowledge alone is not enough. The ability to think critically, act ethically, create boldly, and regulate oneself are the skills that will carry our students forward.

“So much of what IB is about is the pedagogical transformation of education from teacher-centered classrooms to classrooms in which the student’s agency as a learner is centered. What results from this paradigm shift is that teachers learn to focus on the student’s skill development as a learner and not the quantity of information delivered in a semester.” -Sam Adams, Head of School, Seven Peaks School

Through the IB framework and our emphasis on these four competencies, Seven Peaks students grow into thoughtful learners and compassionate leaders.

We are proud of this distinct posture. It is what makes Seven Peaks more than a school — it makes us a community committed to preparing children not just for high school, but for life.
