Seven Peaks School Hosts Acclaimed Local Authors at OBOB Regional Competitions
Seven Peaks School is excited to welcome two esteemed local authors, Irene Cooper and Kerry Chaput, as special guests at this year’s Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) regional competitions. Their presentations will provide students with an extraordinary opportunity to engage with professional writers and explore the power of storytelling.
OBOB is an annual reading competition that fosters a love for literature, teamwork, and critical thinking skills among students. To enrich this experience, Seven Peaks has invited these accomplished authors to share their insights, inspire young readers, and discuss the creative process.
At Seven Peaks, we are deeply committed to the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy, which emphasizes not only inspiring a love for learning in students but also fostering a culture of growth among teachers. Ongoing professional development is a cornerstone of the IB approach, enabling our educators to continuously refine their craft, develop valuable new techniques, and enrich classroom experiences to better support every child.
Discover how Seven Peaks School educators Samantha Lyke and Kori Donley are advancing global education through their acceptance into the prestigious Global Schools Advocates Program. This six-month professional development initiative, part of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, equips teachers with tools to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into classrooms, fostering sustainability, active learning, and global citizenship.
The IB 5th Grade Exhibition: A PYP Milestone
The IB 5th Grade Exhibition is the culminating experience of the Primary Years Programme, where students showcase their learning through a collaborative, inquiry-driven project. Guided by teachers and mentors, students explore real-world issues they’re passionate about, conduct in-depth research, and present their findings creatively.
This milestone highlights their growth in critical skills like research, self-management, and communication, while embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes. It’s a proud moment for families to see their child’s knowledge, creativity, and curiosity come to life!
In the IB framework, being a risk-taker means approaching uncertainty with courage and determination. It’s about exploring new ideas, embracing challenges, and standing up for what’s right, even when it’s difficult. Risk-takers are resilient and resourceful, confident in stepping out of their comfort zones to grow as learners and leaders. This mindset empowers students to face the unknown with thoughtful action, perseverance, and a sense of purpose.
