 A Blast from the Past!


 

Our 1st graders stepped back in time with a visit to the last and only Blockbuster video store! They learned about the magic of renting videos, DVD players, and the joy of choosing the perfect movie for a Friday night. 
It was a great chance to explore a world outside their usual digital streaming zone.

Seven Peaks teacher Mariah Runk shared, “It was such a unique experience for our students to see and learn about how people used to pick and share entertainment—it sparked so many great questions and a lot of wonder!” 

Battle of the books Regional Competition

KTVZ: ‘I really enjoy the books’: Seven Peaks School in Bend hosts area’s Battle of the Books reading competition

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Young readers were tested on their reading comprehension skills Saturday morning at Seven Peaks School. Ninety bookworms from the Bend-La Pine area tackled the local competition in the Oregon Battle of the Books, a statewide reading challenge.     

 Students from third through fifth grade read up to 16 books. The competition was divided into teams of four, competing against other schools in the region, to see who knows the books the best.

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The 2023 regional Oregon Battle of the Books tournament will take place on Saturday, March 18th at Seven Peaks School.

CO Daily: Bend teacher nominated for national History Day program award

A teacher at Seven Peaks School in Bend is one of two Oregon educators nominated for the national Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award for their work with students on Oregon History Day. He's he second teacher in as many years to be nominated from Seven Peaks.

Patrick O’Brien is a 7th and 8th grade Individuals and Societies teacher. The Historical Society said O’Brien, who moved to Bend from Switzerland in 2018, has made History Day a cornerstone of the school’s curriculum.

Central Oregon daily: Oregon Battle of the Books reading competition held at Seven Peaks School

Seven Peaks School in Bend hosted Oregon Battle of the Books on Saturday.

Students from all over the state read from 16 books chosen last summer and were asked questions to find out who remembers the most from those titles.

90 students from 19 schools were represented for Saturday’s competition.

Statewide over 30,000 students from 8,000 teams compete in Oregon Battle of the Books each year.

KTVZ: Bend, Beaverton educators nominated for National History Day’s Teacher of the Year award

History Day is a student-directed learning program that reaches more than half a million students each year. Creating projects inspired by an annual theme, young historians in grades 6–12 choose topics to explore, conduct historical research, practice critical thinking skills, and analyze primary and secondary sources while considering diverse viewpoints.
