Counseling

Our Counselor

Meet Chandler peterson

Hello SPS Family! I’m Miss Chandler, and I’m thrilled to be entering into my third year as the school counselor at Seven Peaks. Over the past two years, I’ve had the joy of getting to know our students, families, and faculty, and I’ve come to deeply appreciate how special this community is. I’m inspired every day by the way Seven Peaks lives out the mission of the IB—empowering students to be curious, resilient, and compassionate leaders.

In my role, I’m here to walk alongside students as they grow—helping them navigate challenges, celebrate their strengths, and build skills that serve them both in and out of the classroom.

Outside of school, I love exploring all that Bend has to offer, from hiking trails to new restaurants. I also enjoy reading, video chatting with my family back in Wisconsin, filling my home with plants, and indulging in my favorite new hobby, crocheting!

Here’s to another fantastic year together! Go Eagles!

The Role of Counseling at Seven Peaks School

At Seven Peaks, we know that academic excellence cannot exist without emotional well-being. Our school counselor is a cornerstone of student success, guiding children through the challenges and transitions of growing up with care, expertise, and intention.

why counseling matters

From the earliest years of school through adolescence, students face a wide range of social, emotional, and developmental needs. Our counselor provides support that is essential for:

  • Building Resilience – Helping students navigate challenges and setbacks with strength and adaptability.

  • Developing Emotional Awareness – Teaching children how to identify, express, and manage their emotions in healthy ways.

  • Strengthening Social Skills – Supporting positive peer relationships, conflict resolution, and empathy.

  • Managing Stress and Anxiety – Equipping students with tools to cope with academic pressure, social dynamics, and personal challenges.

Partnership with Families and Teachers

Our counselor works closely with both families and faculty to ensure that each student is supported holistically. This includes:

  • Confidential conversations with students to provide guidance and care.

  • Collaboration with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning into daily classroom life.

  • Ongoing communication with families to share strategies that can extend support beyond school.

A Safe Space for Every Student

Whether a child is experiencing a moment of uncertainty, navigating friendships, or preparing for the next big transition, our counselor is there to listen, guide, and encourage. Every student deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported—and that is at the heart of our counseling program.

At Seven Peaks, we believe that a strong social-emotional foundation is the key to thriving in school and in life. Our counselor’s role ensures that students are not only learning academics but also developing the confidence, empathy, and resilience they will carry into the future.

PYP Curriculum

Cultivating Compassionate Learners: Social-Emotional Learning in the Primary Years at Seven Peaks School.

In our IB program, we recognize that education extends far beyond textbooks. For our youngest learners in the Primary Years Programme (PYP), social-emotional learning (SEL) is the heartbeat of their educational journey.

Rooted in the principles of the IB framework, our approach to SEL is about more than just academic achievement—it's about nurturing well-rounded, empathetic individuals. Through a curriculum that values emotional intelligence, cooperation, and self-awareness, we lay the foundation for a lifetime of success.

At Seven Peaks, SEL isn't a standalone concept; it's seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our PYP curriculum. From collaborative projects to daily interactions, our students learn the importance of understanding and managing their emotions, fostering positive relationships, and embracing diversity, with a global awareness.

As we guide our primary years students through this transformative journey, we're not just shaping future scholars; we're fostering compassionate global citizens who approach challenges with resilience and empathy.

MYP Curriculum

Nurturing Hearts and Minds: The Essence of Social-Emotional Learning in Middle Years at Seven Peaks School.

Drawing inspiration from Chris Balme's work, "Finding the Magic of Middle School," Seven Peaks School has woven a profound emphasis on social-emotional learning (SEL) into our Middle Years Programme (MYP) Advisory program.

Balme's insights underscore the transformative power of addressing not just academic needs but also the rich tapestry of emotions that define the middle school experience. At Seven Peaks, we believe that fostering emotional intelligence and resilience is fundamental to unlocking the full potential of our middle schoolers.

Did you know your brain is like a happiness factory?
It’s true! Your brain creates special chemicals that boost your mood and help you feel connected. Let’s meet three of your “brain buddies”: Endorphins, Oxytocin, and Serotonin!

1. Endorphins – The Feel-Good Boosters
These are your body’s natural cheerleaders. When you move your body—running, skiing, climbing, laughing with friends—endorphins rush in to help you feel strong, energized, and happy.

2. Oxytocin – The Connection Hormone
Oxytocin shows up when you feel safe and connected. It’s released when you hug a pet, share a smile with a friend, or show kindness. It’s your brain’s way of saying: “You belong here.”

3. Serotonin – The Mood Lifter
Serotonin helps you feel calm, steady, and proud. Whether it’s finishing a big project, helping in your community, or celebrating a win with your team, serotonin is the high-five your brain gives you.
