The IB Mission

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

International baccalaureate inclusion 

Inclusive education is facilitated in a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, support and problem-solving involving the whole school community. 

Across the world, inclusive education has grown from a movement that was about the inclusion of students with disabilities to a holistic approach that is about all learners and values the diversity of the student population.

The IB approaches equity and inclusive education in two main ways:

  • inclusive principles in the design of IB programmes
  • inclusive education practices in IB World Schools.

  • Teach international mindedness

  • Use inquiry as a pedagogical approach

  • Emphasize language learning

  • Provide opportunities for actions and becoming responsible community members

  • Emphasize collaboration for both students and teachers

  • Value teaching students how to learn by explicitly teaching Approaches To Learning (ATL): thinking skills, social skills, self-management skills, research skills, communication skills
