International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM
Seven Peaks began implementing the middle school IB program in the fall of 2009 and continues to bring the IB program into daily instruction. We are on schedule to have full IB program implementation by the fall of 2012. The IB program is designed to help students develop the knowledge, attitudes and critical thinking skills needed to participate as leaders in our changing world. It is not a set curriculum, but an instructional philosophy that challenges students through higher order thinking.
The IB program classes include language arts, foreign language, humanities, science, technology, mathematics, fine arts, music, and physical education. The five Areas of Interaction within IB encourage integrated learning across subject areas and for students to consider the larger implications within all units.
Assessments include problem-solving investigations, organized debates, experimentation, analysis and reflection. These assess the students’ thinking processes, as well as, the finished piece of work. Self-assessment and peer-assessment are emphasized within the program. Please visit www.ibo.org for more information.
