1. How does a student who has not been in a Core Knowledge school transition into Seven Peaks?
We work with students and parents to help ensure a smooth transition through teacher conferences, parent contact, and up-to-date grade reports. Core Knowledge is known for its spiraling curriculum, and topics are re-visited through the grades to build on prior knowledge. Students who come to Seven Peaks bring background knowledge from other schools and experiences that allow them to integrate quickly and smoothly.
2. How does the Core Knowledge curriculum address math and reading?
The Core Knowledge Foundation encourages schools to align objectives for reading, writing and math with state standards. Seven Peaks has chosen Everyday Math for the elementary math programs and Glencoe Pre-Algebra/Algebra math series (www.glencoe.com ) for the middle school program. We follow the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop approach developed at Columbia University for reading and writing.
3. How are students challenged or assisted
(if needed) in the classroom?
Teachers at Seven Peaks develop lessons and homework that are differentiated to the varying needs of their students. Students also work in small groups, often with the support of an aide, to further refine their skills.
4. What sports programs are available for Seven Peaks students?
We offer middle school boys and girls cross-country, basketball and girls volleyball. Many of our students participate in sports offered through the Bend Parks and Recreation Department.
5. Does Seven Peaks enroll students with special needs?
Yes, however we do not have a special education teacher on staff which limits our ability to service a student’s IEP. Prior to enrollment, we will evaluate a student's needs to ensure they can be met.
6. How much parent involvement is expected at Seven Peaks?
At Seven Peaks School, family involvement is an essential part of a child’s education and volunteer hours are required of each family. Opportunities for volunteering are virtually limitless, from assisting in classrooms, to making costumes, to helping with landscaping on the weekends.
Annual Volunteer Requirements:
Preschool 15 hours
Jr. Kindergarten 20 hours
Kindergarten – 8th grade 40 hours
Family Cap (two or more students enrolled) 50 hours
7. How do students transition into a public high school from Seven Peaks?
Our teachers and counselor work closely with the area high schools to establish appropriate academic transfers and schedule in house visits from the high schools.
Our middle school students our well prepared for the academic courses at the high school level and are advocate for themselves in larger settings because they established close relationships with their middle school teachers at Seven Peaks. Our students are expected to be responsible, accountable and conscientious. Seven Peaks students are excited and self assured about entering high school and make successful transitons.
8. What is the admission deadline?
Current Seven Peaks students are required to make a commitment for the following year in March. All new applications are due April 15th. Late applications will be accepted for any classes that are not full.
9. What are the admissions requirements?
The first step is to attend a school visitation and tour in February or March. You may call to schedule an individual appointment if you are not available for these tours. Initially, you will learn the school programs, curriculum and philosophies to determine if Seven Peaks is a good fit for your child.
